What is the measuring principle and the benefits of LVDT sensors?

The LVDT is an absolute analog position sensor that is based on inductive technology, consisting of a primary coil and two secondary coils. These coils convert the linear motion of the shaft movement into electrical signals that can be processed for accurate control and measurement. Being inductive, the sliding wiper used with potentiometers is not required, and thus, is wear-free.

What is the correct name for LVDT?

There are multiple terms for LVDT, but all refer to the same type of device, sensors used to precisely measure linear motion & displacement. All of the following terms are correct:
